Other names and notes
(Yellow Hawkweed). The plant can reach 5' in height. The stems are leafy. The yellow flower head is about 1inch wide, has more than 12 rays. Heads are on long stalks and appear in loose branched clusters. The leaves are alternate and have a few sharp teeth or irregularly spaced lobes and somewhat clasp the stem. Leaf edges are not rough. The basal rosette of leaves is absent when flowering. The genus name is from the old Greek "hierakion" meaning 'hawk'.

Notes: Eloise Butler had catalogued this plant in her plant index as present in the Garden area. Martha Crone listed it on her 1951 Garden Census. It is known to have distribution in Minnesota but the localities are not identified. Canadian Hawkweed is considered a noxious weed in some states.
